Actors Theatre of Little Rock will foster an “artistic ecosystem” for Central AR and beyond that pursues artistic excellence, curiosity, discipline, and an evolutionary creative path. Actors Theatre LR is a community-driven organization, for the people of Central Arkansas by the people of Central Arkansas. We want to cultivate underserved audiences and share the spotlight rather than continuously present the same artists over and over again.
From one night open mics, full productions, talkbacks, to educational experiences, Actors Theatre of Little Rock aims to be an organization that creates meaningful engagement with our community–making creativity a normal, necessary part of life. We aim to engage our community artistically through productions, education opportunities, events, and happenings all over Central Arkansas. Actors Theatre will meet people where they are to engage with the performing arts and make our audience feel like participants in the art. We seek to be a creative hub where all individuals can find belonging, a space for their voice to be shared, and be fed by stories and creativity.
Actors Theatre of Little Rock is a human first organization, placing emotional, mental, and physical health first in our projects. “The Show Must Go On” mentality that has plagued theatre created an unhealthy work/life balance. Artists have been made to feel guilty and replaceable when life events occur, but planning and a full support system can alleviate this. We acknowledge the immense efforts needed to create theatre and that it is a profession. While we will provide stipends initially, Actors Theatre will work toward creating job opportunities for local artists within 5 years. By sustaining artists, we will sustain the organization. We will hold professional standards in our operations and artistic products. In each project, Actors Theatre participants will work toward the same, collective goal.
