"Life's too short for Ordinary Theatre"
The Artists Lab is the incubator hub of Actors Theatre of Little Rock, focusing on devised, experimental, and long form original performance projects in Central Arkansas.
What can you expect?
Projects that utilize ensemble created approaches, engage emerging technology, and address contemporary social issues. We also create collaborations across the United States, connecting local artists with those in other areas (Upcoming collaborations include artists in Texas, Illinois, and California).
Devised theatre takes time, so The Artist Lab aims to provide space for exploration without the usual time crunch of a regular production. Each process is unique, addressing the primary question of each project.
We believe that imagination is endless; and theatre should be too.
We are excited to launch our Artists Lab in Season Zero with their first production: SkyWoman!
SkyWoman is a promenade performance exploring nature's relationship to humanity. Participants will endeavor on a path of interactions and stories including live performers and Augmented Reality technology.
What would happen if we stopped and truly listened to what the planet is telling us? How can we see nature not as simply a resource, but as a relative? If we reconnect with the earth, could we find some peace during a relentlessly unstable moment like this? Even though we don't speak the same language, we think nature is crying to be heard. And...
What if your phone could help make that happen?
We are excited to partner with the Henderson State University Theatre Department to develop and present SkyWoman! Sept. 28-Oct. 2 will take place in Arkadelphia with a cast of HSU students. Oct. 13-15 will take place in Little Rock with a combined cast of HSU students and Little Rock residents.
