The Artists Lab is the incubator hub of Actors Theatre of Little Rock, focusing on fostering new works, exploring devised and experimental theatre, and pioneering original performance projects in Central Arkansas.
Throughout the year, Actors Theatre will present new and experimental work in development by area artists as well as work which reflects the unique history and culture of Central Arkansas.
Actors Theatre’s Artists Lab is a flexible series of bold, imaginative works in early stages. These pieces are workshopped and either presented internally to ATLR board and staff or showcased through public presentations. These Labs provide artists with dedicated rehearsal time and artistic support to develop and experiment with work without the pressure of production.
Creating new theatre takes time, so the Artists Lab aims to provide a sanctuary for creative investigation without the time constraints typically associated with conventional productions. Every process undertaken here is distinctive, tailored to address the uniqueness of each specific project.
The Artists Lab also provides playwrights an opportunity to collaborate with a director, a dramaturg and a company of actors to develop the work, while also offering audiences an exclusive first look at the work and a unique insight into the playwriting process. After performances, members of the artistic team host talkbacks to encourage dialogue between audiences and artists.
At its core, the Artists Lab is a space for nurturing creativity. We believe that imagination is endless; and theatre should be too.
