Why "Zero?" Our official first season will launch in January 2023, but we didn't want to go these next six months without doing anything. With that in mind, Season Zero was born! A taste of things to come; a selection of plays and programs to give Central Arkansas audiences an idea of what Actors Theatre of Little Rock is all about!
As part of our Bard @ the Bar program, we are excited to open Season Zero with Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream! Come see "Midsummer" like you've never seen it before as we take over The Rail Yard LR for this one night only performance!
We are excited to kick off our staged reading series, Off The Page, with Mrs. Phu's Cleansing Juices (and also salads) by Emily Witt.
Entering Mrs. Phu's means crossing a gauntlet of steadfast Reaganites and pro-lifers. Just on the other side of the trenches lies a world where a waiter wrangles eccentric customers, a hippie lady floats aimlessly, and three very different women gather to receive abortions under the constraints of stringent federal mandates.
Mrs. Phu's Cleansing Juices (and also salads) will make it's one night only Arkansas premiere August 18th!
We are also excited to launch our Artists Lab in Season Zero with their first production: Remember:Breathe!
Remember:Breathe is a promenade performance exploring nature's relationship to humanity. Participants will endeavor on a path of interactions and stories including live performers and Augmented Reality technology.
What would happen if we stopped and truly listened to what the planet is telling us? How can we see nature not as simply a resource, but as a relative? If we reconnect with the earth, could we find some peace during a relentlessly unstable moment like this? Even though we don't speak the same language, we think nature is crying to be heard. And...
What if your phone could help make that happen?
We are excited to partner with the Henderson State University Theatre Department to develop and present SkyWoman! Sept. 28-Oct. 2 will take place in Arkadelphia with a cast of HSU students. Oct. 13-15 will take place in Little Rock with a combined cast of HSU students and Little Rock residents.
Are you ready to do a little TIME WARP? This October, join us as we produce the cult classic - The Rocky Horror Show!
The Rocky Horror Show returns to Little Rock in a newly imagined interpretation that’s sure to leave you shivering with antici…..
Rocky Horror will run for October 27-31.
Join us this November for our first Micro Play Festival!
The 2022 MicroPlay Festival will take place on November 7 and 8th (that's right, Election Night!)
The MicroPlay Festival will premiere new works by local playwrights exploring the following prompt:
"It's the MidTerms! Again...What does Democracy look like now? The good, the bad, and the ugly. Do we even recognize America anymore? Where are we going in terms of local and national politics? What faith does America have in itself?"
We are curating a collection of short plays that create a conversation around all things democracy and explore Arkansas issues. The MicroPlay Fest will be performed in person and live streamed for Patreon members. Plays in the festival may be selected to be published digitally by Actors Theatre of Little Rock. Closing out Season Zero, we are excited to produce Black Nativity: the gospel Christmas musical!
Black Nativity is an adaptation of the Nativity story by Langston Hughes, performed by an entirely black cast through the lens of gospel music.
Black Nativity will run December 13-18!
